Heads up: The Colosseum is closed on January 1st and December 25th, so plan accordingly. Also, this year, the Colosseum Attic will be closed from 7 to 14th May and again from 3 to 11 June, so keep this in mind if you are visiting between these dates.

What is the Best Time of the Day to Visit the Colosseum?

Early Morning: This is my favourite time to visit the Colosseum! Arriving when the Colosseum opens not only helps you avoid the biggest crowds, but you’ll also catch that beautiful morning light. It’s peaceful, and the photos you’ll take are pure magic.

Late Afternoon: The lighting is softer, the crowds are thinning out, and the whole place feels extra dreamy as the day winds down.

Weekdays Over Weekends: If you can, visit during the week. Weekends and public holidays can get pretty packed, which means longer lines and less breathing room.

Colosseum Ticket Prices in 2026

Navigating ticket options doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s the breakdown for 2026:

24-Hour Standard Ticket (€18): Includes access to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. This is great if you’re sticking to the basics.

Full Experience Ticket (€24): Valid for 48 hours, this ticket is a step up and includes access to the Colosseum (with arena floor), Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, and special SUPER sites.

Special Tours: These come at varying prices but are totally worth it. You can opt for an Underground Tour, Night Tour, or other exclusive options.

Make sure to check the official ticketing website of the Colosseum to find the tickets at the prices listed above. If they're sold out, don't worry though! How to Get to the Colosseum

The Colosseum is located in the heart of Rome and is easily accessible by public transport:

Metro

Hop on Line B (Blue Line) and get off at the “Colosseo” stop. As soon as you exit the station, you’ll be greeted by the awe-inspiring view of the Colosseum. It’s a jaw-dropping moment, I promise

Bus

Several buses stop near the Colosseum, including routes 75, 81, 175, and 204.

Taxi

Taxis are widely available in Rome, but ensure you’re using official white taxis to avoid being overcharged. How Long Does It Take to Visit the Colosseum?

Plan for 1-1.5 hours to fully experience the Colosseum. This gives you enough time to explore at a comfortable pace, whether you’re on a guided tour or venturing out solo. Don’t forget to factor in time for security checks—these can take a while, especially during peak hours.

Although, if you’re also visiting the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, add another two hours to your itinerary. Trust me, these sites are worth every minute and I highly recommend that you make the time for it. Because, the views from Palatine Hill? Chef’s kiss.
