Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain in Rome, Italy

The Trevi Fountain is one of the most beautiful monuments in the city, making it one of the most Instagrammable places in Rome. The monument is situated on a tiny square in the heart of the city. Which means it is usually packed with people for most of the day. This makes it impossible to get the best pictures here. So how can you get the images and enjoy this gorgeous place without the crowds? Just visit early morning!

I usually try to visit the monument by 6:30-7 am as it is the emptiest at that point and the lighting is pretty perfect. If you’re good at night photography, late nights are quiet at the monument too. Anytime post 12:30-1 am should be good to visit and get those gorgeous night shots of this iconic monument.

Colosseum

Of course, the Colosseum makes it to the list of most Instagrammable places in Rome. It is the most iconic monument in the city and one of the wonders of the ancient world. And like every other wonder of the world, you will find the monument flooded with people through the day. But there are some ways you can get great pictures of the monument without loads of people around. Here are my top 4 photo spots:

Piazza Venezia

Piazza Venezia is another stunning monument that adorns the skyline of the city. The monument is located in the middle of a busy, bustling street of the city. Early mornings are ideal for getting your pictures here, but you will still get traffic in your shot. Here are some great spots to click your Instagram perfect pictures from:

Castel Sant’Angelo

Right by the river is the beautiful Castel Sant’Angelo. This monument is one of the most Instagrammable places in Rome. Right outside it is the beautiful Ponte Sant’Angelo, a pedestrian-only bridge in the city.

Early mornings are the best timings to get your pictures here. By evening the bridge is filled with street artists and tourists walking by the beautiful monument. If you can’t make it in the morning, you can try clicking your pictures from under the bridge. That way, you will be able to get a good picture without all the crowds.

Trastevere

Pretty corners of Trastevere in Rome, Italy

Want a beautiful picture in the typical Italian cobblestoned streets? Then Trastevere is the place for you. This area in Rome is filled with pretty streets that are Insta perfect for all your photoshoots. Take your time to stroll through the streets and pick the best and quietest corners to shoot those Instagram pictures. The area is also filled with funky street art. So make sure to notice the cool graffiti while you’re at it.

The best time to visit would be early mornings, up until lunch. That’s when the area starts to get packed with the tourists. If not, you can walk around and find a secluded street with fewer people around to get those perfect pictures.

Pantheon

View of the Pantheon from the square outside the monument in Rome, Italy

One of the most impressive monuments in Rome is the Pantheon. Nothing says Rome like this majestic symbol of ancient Rome. It is definitely one of the best photo spots in Rome.

You can get some good pictures in front of the monument from the square outside. Try to get here early morning as it can get super crowded during the day. Late nights can also be great for those night photography shoots as there are only a handful of people around.

St. Peters Square

View of the St. Peter’s Square in Rome, Italy

The majestic St. Peter’s Square is definitely on the list of the best photo spots in Rome. This square in the Vatican is absolutely overwhelming with its beauty and magnanimity. This monument in the city should definitely be one of your photo stops on your holiday in Rome.

The square is usually packed with people all through the day. So it might be challenging to get the best pictures with no people photo-bombing the shot. Early mornings and around lunch hour should be your best bet. Evenings around 5 is definitely much calmer here. Try using creative angles to cut out the crowds, and you should be fine.

Ponte Umberto

View of the dome in the Vatican from Ponte Umberto in Rome, Italy

Ponte Umberto is not picture perfect like Ponte Sant’Angelo. But the view of the Vatican done from here is impressive. This is definitely one of my favorite photo spots in the city. Sunsets here are the best times for those picture-perfect Instagram shots.

A cool way to capture the view is from the bank of the river. Just walk down the stairs to lungotevere by the river and click away!

Villa Borghese

View of the lake in Villa Borghese in the heart of Rome, Italy

The Borghese Gardens are filled with photo ops. From great viewpoints to pictures by the lake, you can get them all here! Just walk around the park and find the most beautiful spots you would like to click your pictures at. My favourite shot here has to be by the lake with the ruins of the ancient temple in the middle. You can also rent out a boat and get some good pictures on the boat as well.

Roman Forum

View of the ruins in the Roman Forum in Rome, Italy

Nothing says Rome better than those ruins! And the best place to shoot some of those ancient Roman ruins is at the fascinating Roman Forum. The forum is right next to the Colosseum and is open daily from 8:30 am. The crowds start showing up here post 2 pm, so try getting here as early as possible. If you can’t make it before 2 pm, don’t worry though. It is a vast open space, so I’m sure you will manage to get good photos with no one around. Especially if you can be patient enough for the right moment!

Piazza Navona

View of Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy

Piazza Navona is a beautiful square in the heart of Rome. The square has two fountains, the one in the centre being the biggest and most beautiful. This square is surrounded by colourful buildings, making it one of the best photo spots in Rome.

The square gets crowded during lunch hour though the evenings are the busiest. If it’s too crowded, you can try to get a close up with the fountain in the center and cut all the crowds out of the frame.

For a fun photo idea, grab a Tiramisu from Two Sizes or Mr. 100 Tiramisu, known to have some of the best Tiramisu in Rome, and use it as a prop for your outdoor shoot.

Secret Garden

Pretty corner in the secret garden of Rome, Italy

This hidden gem in Rome is located near Campo de Fiori. The secret garden is a perfect place to get your pictures without the crowds that flood the city through the year. Since it is a very secluded spot, you will get the privacy you need for those insta perfect Rome photos you would like to click in the city.

VISITING ROME IN SPRING? HERE IS A GUIDE TO ALL THE FUN SPRING THINGS TO DO IN THE CITY

Piazza Campidoglio

View of Piazza Campidoglio, Rome

Piazza Campidoglio is another excellent spot for photos in Rome. The main entrance to this square is right next to Piazza Venezia. After climbing a flight of stairs, you get to the square flagged by two massive sculptures. This is one of the most important squares in the city as it is where the Mayor’s office is situated.

The Orange Garden

View of Rome from the Orange Garden in Rome, Italy

The Orange Garden or the Giardino degli Aranci is one of the prettiest gardens in Rome. The view from the little terrace here is amazing and makes for the perfect picture opportunity. Evenings in the garden can get busy as it is a great sunset spot in the city. Even with the crowds, you should manage to get shots free of the crowds by playing with angles.

Spanish Steps and Trinità dei Monti

Early morning at the Spanish Steps in Rome, Italy

The Spanish Steps and the Trinità dei Monti make a perfect backdrop for any picture of Rome. The evenings here are usually the busiest. But after the new law by the government banning people from sitting on the stairs, it may just be easier to get your pictures here free of photo-bombers.

For the best photos though, I highly recommend early morning. The Spanish Steps are just a few minutes away by foot from the Trevi Fountain. So this can be your second photo stop right after an early morning at the Trevi Fountain.

Gianicolo Hill

Sunrise view from Piazzale Giuseppe Garibaldi on Gianicolo Hill in Rome, Italy

Another one of the most Instagrammable places in Rome is from the Piazzale Giuseppe Garibaldi on Gianicolo Hill. This square is located on top of the hill and offers panoramic views of the city. The square is open to the public and requires no entrance ticket.

You can shoot perfect pictures here almost throughout the day as it is a vast square. That makes it easy to find a spot without being photo-bombed. But I highly recommend visiting for sunrise or sunset. Those views of the city are the most stunning from here!

Teatro Marcello

Teatro Marcello in Rome, Italy

The Marcello Theater is a stunning theater of ancient Rome, part of which is still well preserved today. It is located in the Jewish Ghetto region of Rome. Today, it is still possible to walk through the ruins of the theater.

The monument does not require an entrance ticket. It is open to the public daily from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Since it is not one of the most famous monuments in the city, it does not get packed with people making it a perfect spot for your pictures. Make sure to get your pictures outside the ancient Portico di Ottavia too which is on the other side of Theater Marcello.

Pincio Terrace

Pincio Terrace is another popular viewpoint in the city. It is located in Villa Borghese, right next to Piazza Del Popolo. The view from here at sunset is gorgeous, making it one of the most instagrammable places in Rome.

The viewpoint is free to access and is open 24*7. Evenings here can get extremely crowded. So make sure to go a little earlier in the day. If not, I recommend visiting for sunset and trying to find a good angle to shoot so you can crop out the crowds.

FUN THINGS TO DO IN ROME AT NIGHT

Via Margutta

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9ORAgTpoCX

One of the most instagrammable places in Rome is Via Margutta. It is a small street in the heart of the city that is known as the foreigners’ quarter. The street is filled with artisan shops and trendy restaurants. The most beautiful part though is that the buildings here have plants growing all over them. This is what makes it one of the best streets for photos in Rome.

The street can get jampacked post-lunch hour. So make sure you visit the spot before then. In my opinion, the earlier you get there, the better pictures you will get.

Via Di S. Simone

View of Via Di S. Simone

One of the most instagrammable places in Rome has to be this little street off Via dei Coronari. This is the picture you find all over the internet when you search for Rome. The best time to shoot here has to be at dusk as that is when they light up the fairy lights here. That makes this spot look extra magical.
